JDEI Statement

To the ancient Romans, the concept of humanitas included an education that instilled the cardinal virtues of mind and character required to lead a vibrant and fulfilling life: justice, wisdom, courage, and temperance. Guided by these classical ideals, the UCCS Humanities Program strives to create a just, diverse, equitable, and inclusive (JDEI) intellectual space.

Justice commits us to pursuing fairness in all aspects of our program, from curriculum development to administrative policies, providing an inclusive space where diverse voices are not only heard but actively amplified. Wisdom guides our decisions and actions, prompting us to thoughtfully navigate the complexities of diversity. We continuously work to foster an environment that celebrates and savors the rich tapestry of human experiences and perspectives. Courage emboldens us to confront social injustices, encouraging resilience in the face of adversity. We are committed to dismantling barriers that hinder access and success within our academic community, ensuring that all individuals can thrive.
